This most recent piece came about after I had a few days with the house and farm to myself. With lots of time to sit down and really think about so many of the things going on right now, I finally pulled some of those emotions out and put them into this painting. The lady on the white horse represents empowerment. She and her horse are formidable. Strong. Courageous. Bold. In the background are faint figures of young women riders, just discovering the freedom and joy of the partnership horses give us. Truth be told, my mother is the little girl closest to the horse’s nose and my daughter is on the galloping paint on the right. In our family, three generations of women have had the honor of lives filled with horses. When the going gets rough, we turn to the sanctuary that is the barn. Here we find peace, strength and hope.
And right now we all need that and so much more. The painting is framed with corners from one of late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s lace collars. It was her way of reminding everyone that she could sit on the court with men. And she would always be there fulfilling that role with her own emphasis on the ever important need for equality for women.
The unframed original painting is 20″ w x 16″ h and is available for purchase. It is $1400. Contact the studio for more information.
Giclee-quality prints of this piece are available in various sizes.
