Keeping these paintings really small (3″ X 3″) allows me to play with composition and colors in a very simple way. I just can’t get bogged down in details. Even if there was a brush small enough, the weave of the canvas will mess me up! I used an old painting of foxhounds for reference, with my two dogs lying at my feet, reminding me that they aren’t hounds; they are retrievers!
Yes. I actually use a lot of watercolor techniques when I paint in acrylics on my murals and floorcloths. I’ve just started experimenting recently with oils and I really love the flexilibilty the medium gives me.
Have you tried watercolor?
