Mariner’s Compass

Dating back to when floorcloths were first being used in America in the early 18th century, they were found in seacoast towns. This explains the use of the Compass motif on so many historic floorcloths. The central Compass design can be enhanced with many border options. There are also several versions of the compass itself which can be incorporated. The one shown above is called the Wetherstone compass. It came from an early advertisement for a floorcloth painter in the early 19th century.
Any of these compass designs can be artistically enhanced with Lisa Curry Mair’s beautiful handpainted effects such as marbling, sponging and dragging. Click here to see all of the color and texture choices that are available to you.
Pricing on these compass floorcloths starts at $35/square foot. Prices increase as options are added. There is a minimum size of 50 square feet. Typical sizes are 8′ X 10′ and 9′ X 12′. Lisa enjoys focusing her attention on large, artistic pieces. She does not create small, kitchen sink or entry doormat floorcloths.
