Detail of West wall of mural for This Old House’s Westford, MA project. 11’ x 5.5’ acrylic on canvas by Lisa Curry Mair
On Sunday, February 16, 2025* Lisa will be opening up the studio to show the newly completed four-wall mural which will be heading to its new home soon.
Or join us for a live studio tour at 1:00 EST via Zoom at this link. The passcode is S4yBxY.
*Due to a forecasted snow/ice storm, the Open Studio has been extended to Monday, February 17 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
This project has been a dream job. The dining room to be decorated is in a home in historic Westford, Mass. Lisa lived in Westford as a little girl, in a beautiful 1700s colonial directly across the street from this house! When the homeowners reached out about a mural, Lisa’s heart skipped a beat. And when they said they wanted foxhunting scenes wrapping around the room with distant views of Westford’s historic buildings, she knew it just had to be!

And then they announced that the Victorian home is being refurbished as a project for the TV show, This Old House. It was in 2015 that TOH first came to the studio to film her talking about floorcloths and now they wanted to come back to see what all this mural stuff was about! A couple of weeks ago the crew came to the studio and spent the day learning all about Lisa’s process and shooting film of Lisa at work and showing host Kevin O’Connor how she gets from idea to sketch to finished canvas panels to be installed later in the home. The mural will be featured in a couple of episodes of the show towards the end of the airing (on PBS) of the Westford project, probably towards the end of April.
It occurred to Lisa that very few people get to see her finished murals because they usually are installed, like this one, in private homes. This project strikes so close to home for her, she has decided to share it while it’s still here in the studio. It will be hanging from the beams in her studio to form an enclosed dining room, the size of the actual Westford room and visitors will be able to go inside and experience the sensation of time travel to the late 1800s, as the peaceful scenes wrap around. The initial pen and ink drawings, layouts and full-color sketches will be displayed and Lisa will be talking about the steps to making this kind of mural. (Please take note that the studio is on a second floor and there is a full set of stairs to get up there.)

Sorry, Denise. I didn’t record it.
I missed the zoom bc I was shoveling out in Rutland trying to keep ahead. By any chance did you record it? Could you post it to YouTube privately & give link to those who request it?
Thank you, Therese! Hope you all are doing well.
All the best with your open house event.
Wishing you both well, Bart and Lisa.
With love from Prince Edward Island.
Yes. Tomorrow should be better!
I’m planning on coming tomorrow. Snowed in today and now freezing rain.
Thanks!!
So exciting Lisa! Bravo!
Oh my! Thank you so much!
Your artwork is magnificent. I watch TOH every Saturday and can not wait to view the episodes featuring your work. Have you ever thought about putting out a book with your artwork and stories about the areas you paint ? Your artwork is beyond anything I have ever seen in any of my books on 19th Century artworks. The work you do is comparable to Rufus Porter, Edward Hicks, and Charles C. Hofmann. Please think about putting together a book. I know it would fly off the bookstore shelves. I alone would buy several copies to keep and give to friends. I can’t wait to see your zoom tour and watch you on TOH. Thank you for doing this for those who follow your work.
Congratulations!!! We were planning on coming but two hours driving through ice might make us stay home. 🙁
You are an amazing artist, enjoy every moment and breathe.
So proud to call you my friend.
Thank you, Margee!
Thank you, Linda!
So sorry to miss this<<I will be in NC<<<
Blessings to YOU as you share your gifts
and as you are lifted up to SHINE your light
through your art to viewers
on This Old House.

Lisa,
Congratulations on the opportunity to share your murals with both the owners of a home in your old hometown, the invitation to folks to visit your home studio and the TV viewing audience! It is a rare opportunity and you are certainly up to the task.
So exciting!
I’m planning to come and I can’t wait!
