This barn stands today next to the edge of the road in the northwestern part of Weathersfield called “Greenbush”. The stone house across the road was part of the farm which was once inhabited by Isaac Eddy, a prominent printer and engraver in the early 1800s. Isaac’s son, Oliver Tarbell Eddy, was born there as well and went on to become a prolific portrait painter in Philadelphia. Later, the farm became a dairy farm and in the early 1900s it even had an interior silo! Today, it stands empty, with clapboards missing or falling, but it’s grandeur is undeniable.
The original 16″ x 20″ artwork is a combination of painting, torn papers, prints and textural washes to create an image as varied and complex as the old barn itself. Pages from The Vermont Farmer make up the background sky. The painting is sold.
Giclee-quality prints of this piece are available in various sizes.
